Humanitarian Aid to Avdiivka
There are thousands of people suffering now in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka without food, heating or electricity because pro-Russian separatists are firing heavy weapons at them. Ukrainian president interrupted his visit in Germany because of it. The purpose of these Russian-backed forces is to break Ukraine down on the international arena. As the report from the United State Department of State states:
“Since January 28, the OSCE’s Special Monitoring Mission has reported a dramatic increase in fighting, including with heavy artillery and other weapons proscribed by the Minsk agreements. The fighting has caused dozens of Ukrainian military casualties and 10 civilian casualties. It has also left 17,000 civilians, including 2,500 children, without water, heat, or electricity. To avert a larger humanitarian crisis, we call for an immediate, sustained ceasefire and full and unfettered access for OSCE monitors. We also reaffirm U.S. support for full implementation of the Minsk agreements.”
Why we got involved
Nova Ukraine, along with a whole Ukranian community of the Bay Area, wants to help thousands of civilians and children in the affected areas. We are in contact with volunteering groups that are helping civilians with food, water, medicaments, and clothing as events unfold. Nova Ukraine already made a $1000 donation to Ukrainian Frontiers (AC-Center) and we are in communication with other volunteering groups on the front lines. Help us save lives!
Donations
We want to thank everybody who made a donation to provide urgent humanitarian aid to civilians in Avdiivka. Together, we collected and sent $1300 to our partners at Adaptation and Cultural Center in Kharkiv.
