The ban on the Russian Olympic Committee ended today. But the war continues, Ukrainian territory remains occupied, and Russian attacks keep killing innocent civilians.

Terrible call. Ukrainian athletes are competing despite losing training centers to missile strikes, teammates and coaches to the front lines, and family members to the war. Their presence on the world stage is an act of resilience.

The IOC is normalizing Russia’s sporting machine while it wages a war of aggression. Ukraine's Olympic Committee calls this decision premature and unjustified. We agree.

First aid knowledge saves lives.

With the support of Nova Ukraine, the organization Patriot held first-aid trainings for people in Kyiv. Participants learned how to respond in the first critical minutes of an emergency, including how to stop severe bleeding, use a tourniquet, and provide basic first aid before medical help arrives.

In Ukraine today, knowing how to act in an emergency is essential. According to UN human rights monitors, May brought the highest number of civilian casualties in Ukraine in four years.

We will continue supporting communities and medical partners wherever help is needed. Join us at novaukraine.org.

Recovery cannot wait. On July 4, while the US marked 250 years of independence, Nova Ukraine gathered with partners in Cherkasy oblast to talk about the work ahead.

55 partner organizations and 76 participants joined us from nearly every region of Ukraine. These are the teams implementing Nova Ukraine projects across HEAL, BUILD, EMPOWER, and ADVOCATE.

The day we chose was not a coincidence. As the United States marked 250 years of independence, Ambassador Erin E. McKee, CEO of Nova Ukraine, chose to spend the Fourth of July in Ukraine with people who understand that freedom, recovery, and the right to choose the future are not abstract ideas. They are defended every day.

She said:

“There is no place on earth I would rather be today. Watching what the Ukrainian people have done so far and continue to do every day gives me a more profound understanding of what my own country’s founding actually means than anything I learned in school. Ukraine does not just need to survive this war. Ukraine needs to win the peace that follows.”

Recovery is not something that starts after the war. It is already happening NOW through the people and organizations working across Ukraine every day.

Another night of terror in Kyiv and another Day of Mourning.

Overnight, a massive Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and Kyiv Region killed at least 21 people and injured more than 60, including children. Ukrainian officials reported 68 missiles and 351 drones launched, with at least 15 residential buildings damaged or destroyed.

This attack came just days after another nearly 12-hour assault on Kyiv killed 31 people and wounded more than 100.

As NATO leaders are gathering this week, they should prioritize helping Ukraine defend its skies. The bloodshed is intolerable.
