Ohio Becomes Fifth US State to Tackle Russia’s Abduction of Ukrainian Children

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) Nova Ukraine applauds the Ohio State Senate for becoming the fifth U.S. state legislature to introduce a resolution condemning Russia’s forced abduction of Ukrainian children. The bipartisan bill (SCR 21) introduced by State Senators Thomas F. Patton (R-Strongsville) and Kent Smith (D-Euclid) “condemns the Russian Federation for the wrongful and illegal abduction, forcible transfer, and subsequent illegal adoption and indoctrination of children from Ukraine.” Ohio joins Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Wisconsin to take up this issue. Nova Ukraine Welcomes Ostap Korkuna to Board of Directors

SAN FRANCISCO—Nova Ukraine is pleased to announce the appointment of Ostap Korkuna to its Board of Directors. Born and raised in Lviv, Ukraine, Ostap moved to California in 2009 to join Facebook as one of its first infrastructure engineers. He was an early organizer of the MaydanSF movement supporting Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity and is a co-founder of Nova Ukraine, previously serving as a board member and co-chair from 2014 to 2024. “Ostap was there with us at the very beginning when Nova Ukraine started as Euromaidan SF, and he was crucial to getting us off the ground,” says Mikola (Nick) Bilogorskiy, Chairman of Nova Ukraine. “Welcoming him back as we turn toward recovery, reconstruction, and modernization is a full-circle moment for all of us.” During his nine years at Facebook, Ostap helped build the systems powering the world’s largest social network. He later served as Director of Engineering at People.ai, leading the Intelligence Platform team. Ostap recently earned his Master’s in Management from Stanford Graduate School of Business and co-founded NeoLens, where he serves as CTO. NeoLens builds an offline-capable, on-device AI copilot delivering diagnostics and step-by-step guidance for defense and industrial operators. The platform is provided free to Ukrainians.

Nova Ukraine Statement Regarding the Turkey Evacuation Program of Ukrainian Children

Nova Ukraine is deeply concerned by the recent media reporting on the treatment of Ukrainian children housed in facilities operated by the Ruslan Shostak Foundation in Turkey. The findings described in these reports raise grave questions about the conditions in which the children lived, the level of oversight inside the facilities, and the practices used by staff responsible for their care. In 2022, Nova Ukraine did provide a grant to this organization during the early emergency phase of the full-scale invasion. At that time, the initiative was presented as a coordinated evacuation effort involving Ukrainian regional authorities responsible for residential institutions, Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services, and local municipal structures in the Antalya region that provided accommodation permissions. Given these representations—and the urgency of removing children from areas under bombardment—Nova Ukraine had no indication of the concerns now being reported. To be clear: the conditions described in the current reporting were not known to us at the time we awarded the grant. Once we became aware of these findings, Nova Ukraine immediately and permanently ended all cooperation with the Shostak Foundation. Nova Ukraine’s grantmaking system is built on transparency and accountability. Every partnership undergoes documented review, internal verification, and cross-checking through our wide network of active partners, subject-matter experts, and collaboration with local authorities and hromadas. By 2023, Nova Ukraine strengthened reporting standards and prerequisites for grantees. Even with these systems in place, this situation shows the need to further strengthen monitoring and independent access for programs involving children.

STATEMENT FROM NOVA UKRAINE ON THE 28-POINT PEACE PROPOSAL

The 28-point peace plan circulating between Washington and Moscow did not land well. It has been overwhelmingly rejected across Europe, rated as "will require work" by G20 leaders, panned by U.S. senators and House members of both parties, shredded by Ukrainian-American organizations, and denounced by American foreign policy establishment. The New York Times called it "terrifying," The Wall Street Journal editorial denounced it as “an ultimatum”. Ukraine would be asked to amend their constitution to renounce NATO membership in perpetuity. Ukraine would surrender territory defended so far at tremendous human cost. The military would be cut from roughly 880,000 to 600,000 troops. Not downsized for peace, but shrunk during an ongoing invasion. Ukrainian officials are direct: such a reduction would guarantee future territorial losses, not peace. This opening bid is designed to collapse through successive rounds of "compromise." As the initial package has been rejected, pressure will intensify. New deadlines will come. New proposals will follow, each slightly less onerous, each accompanied by urgent appeals to "be realistic." The temptation will be tremendous to accept terms that seem better than the original proposal, even if they remain unacceptable. The months ahead will test Ukraine again. It is when revised proposals arrive with escalated pressure and narrowing options that the real negotiations begin. That is when it will matter most to remember what the red lines actually are. Nova Ukraine and its leadership remain vigilant and continue US-based advocacy for Ukraine in support of US national interests.

19 листопада Росія здійснила одну з найбільших за останні місяці атак дронами та ракетами по всій Україні. Загалом 476 безпілотників та 48 ракет ударили по житлових будинках, енергетичних об’єктах та логістичних центрах. Щонайменше 25 мирних жителів, включно з трьома дітьми, були вбиті та понад 80 поранені. Nova Ukraine висловлює співчуття кожній родині, яка постраждала від сьогоднішнього насильства. Під час цього масованого нападу один із медичних складів Nova Ukraine у Львові був знищений. Жоден співробітник Nova Ukraine не постраждав. "Найголовніше, що наша команда в безпеці, – заявила Посол Ерін Е. МакКі (Ambassador Erin E. McKee), генеральна директорка Nova Ukraine. – Подібні удари спрямовані на руйнування ланцюгів гуманітарного постачання саме на початку зими. Їм це не вдасться". На складі зберігалися медичні засоби, гуманітарні пожертви та ключове медичне обладнання, призначене для підтримки лікарень та клінік по всій Україні. Втрата будь-якої частини цих запасів створює негайні виклики для медичних команд, які й без того працюють під величезним тиском.

Official Statement from Nova Ukraine on Damage to Medical Warehouse in Lviv — November 19, 2025

Early this morning, Russia launched one of the largest drone-and-missile attacks in months across Ukraine — 476 drones and 48 missiles striking residential buildings, energy facilities, and logistics hubs in freezing temperatures. At least 25 civilians, including three children, were killed and more than 80 injured. Our hearts are with every family affected by today’s violence. During this nationwide assault, one of Nova Ukraine’s medical warehouses was damaged. No Nova Ukraine staff were harmed. “We are profoundly grateful that our team is safe,” said Ambassador Erin E. McKee, CEO of Nova Ukraine. “Strikes like this are designed to break humanitarian supply chains just as winter begins. They will not succeed.” The warehouse contained medical supplies and in-kind donations designated to support hospitals and clinics across Ukraine. Losing any portion of this inventory creates immediate challenges for medical teams already working under immense pressure. As Oksana Gologorskaya, VP of Medical Projects, noted, “Our partners count on these supplies every single day. Losing even part of this stock creates immediate gaps for medical teams working under daily missiles. We are already rerouting equipment and preparing replacements so that medical personnel and healthcare facilities do not face interruptions in care.”

Nova Ukraine enthusiastically welcomes the official meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President Donald J. Trump at the White House. President Trump’s strong words in support of Ukraine, and his recognition of the determination and courage of the Ukrainian people, send a powerful signal at this critical moment. His remarks underscore what Ukrainians and their allies know to be true: Russia’s war of aggression has not only failed to break Ukraine but has exposed Russia’s weaknesses and isolation. With continued international backing and the decisive role played by the United States along with the European Union and NATO, Ukraine has the capacity to reclaim its sovereign land, protect its people, and secure victory. We are especially grateful that the horrific issue of abducted Ukrainian children was addressed. Thousands of children have been torn from their families, taken against their will to Russia, and subjected to forced indoctrination. The safe return of these children is a moral imperative, and the world must not look away until every child is reunited with their family and homeland. Today, the path forward requires action. Congress is prepared to move decisively—including advancing new sanctions bills targeting Russia’s war machine and economic lifelines, ensuring the delivery of battle-tested American weapons to Ukraine, and accelerating measures to hold Russian officials accountable for war crimes. The bipartisan consensus on Capitol Hill reflects a growing recognition that Ukraine’s victory is not only achievable but essential for global security. At Nova Ukraine, we know this truth firsthand.
