As we approach the winter months, Nova Ukraine remains focused on delivering support to those facing mounting challenges.
For millions of Ukrainian families, power outages, frequent air alerts, and disrupted routines have become part of daily life. Our work aims to provide a sense of security, normalcy, and resilience for Ukrainians facing an increasingly harsh winter. Here’s a look at our latest initiatives, advocacy work, and how you can help us make a difference this season.
Supporting Ukraine’s Children – Backpacks Against Blackouts

The war has left many Ukrainian children with interrupted schooling and constant anxiety. For the school year, Nova Ukraine provided essential school supplies, including power banks and water bottles, to students in high-risk regions like Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Sumy.
For each child, their backpack includes tools to keep them connected to their parents during air raids and long power outages, providing comfort and safety in a deeply unsettling time. Imagine being a child stuck in a bomb shelter without light or communication — or a parent, separated from your child, unable to reach them. These tools ensure children have the essentials they need to stay safe and connected.
As Ukraine faces the increasing projection of daily power outages lasting from 4 to 18 hours, and even up to 20 hours in more severe cases, the specially equipped backpacks provided by Nova Ukraine offer a lifeline, supporting both education and emotional wellbeing for these children.

Clean Water for Mykolaiv: Tackling Water Scarcity and Cold Winters
We recently opened a fourth free drinking water point in Mykolaiv’s Ingul district. Equipped with advanced filtration, this facility purifies over 1,000 liters of safe, mineral-rich drinking water per hour, verified by the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection. This point provides clean water to thousands of residents affected by frequent water shortages.

Advocacy: Why U.S. Support Matters for Ukraine

At Nova Ukraine, we understand that advocacy is critical in driving real change for Ukraine’s future. As co-founders of the American Coalition for Ukraine, we work tirelessly to keep Ukraine’s needs at the forefront of U.S. foreign policy. On October 23, we saw the impact of these efforts as the G7 finalized a $20 billion installment of a $50 billion loan to Ukraine, funded by frozen russian assets. This loan is crucial, as it provides Ukraine with resources to defend itself and rebuild without adding a burden to U.S. taxpayers.

Winter Preparations
Heating Support for Orphanages and Foster Families

In Kharkiv, war-damaged infrastructure together with the forecast of another brutal winter make daily life a struggle. As a result, the need for reliable heating is essential for survival. Nova Ukraine’s donation of heating boilers to orphanages and foster families provides warmth and security needed to feel safe and secure. These efficient, multi-fuel boilers are crucial in a region facing frequent power and gas outages, allowing vulnerable families to endure the cold this winter season. As winter looms, our commitment is clear: to bring to Kharkiv’s children and caregivers what they so desperately need to bravely navigate these challenging times, and in turn, find a sense of comfort, strength and resilience.
Warmth for Communities Impacted by War: Insulated Sleeping Bags and Bedding

Sometimes, simple items like a sleeping bag or warm bedding can both provide someone with that which they need while restoring a sense of hope that they can persevere. Nova Ukraine’s distribution of insulated sleeping bags and bedding across many regions in Ukraine brings essential warmth and security to residents close to the frontlines left without heating or electricity. For those in harsh conditions, these items are critical, helping people retain warmth and prevent hypothermia. They provide basic comfort and protect health, especially for children, the elderly, and those unable to heat their homes. Your support helps people face the cold season with greater safety and warmth.
