Nova Ukraine’s resettlement team helps pair host families with Ukrainian refugees who are in desperate need of housing – but we desperately need additional hosts to make this program possible.

One successful placement by our team is Cindy and Guy, who agreed to host a mother and daughter in their home. Read their story below.

Cindy’s Story

When the war broke out in Ukraine, my husband Guy and I were so saddened by the plight of the people of Ukraine. We wondered what we could do to help. Then our church announced that there was a need for people to host families who had fled the war and were coming across the border from Mexico. God put it on both of our hearts to volunteer to host a refugee family. We signed up that evening.

Our intent in opening our home was to try and be helpful, but in reality we are the ones who have been unbelievably blessed

Cindy and guy

Olena and Dasha arrived at our home in late April. We were delighted to find that Dasha knew quite a bit of English, so we were able to communicate immediately. We quickly learned that they are both very kind, thankful, thoughtful, smart, and hardworking people. We have spent many hours talking, laughing and sometimes crying with them. They have endured a lot. Their family is scattered. Yet, they continue to persevere and move forward with their lives.

We liked them from the very beginning, but now we have truly grown to love them. They have become like family to us! Our intent in opening our home was to try and be helpful, but in reality we are the ones who have been unbelievably blessed!

Congress Raises the Cost of Putin’s War in Ukraine

WASHINGTON – Nova Ukraine applauds Congress's bipartisan passage of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act 2026, sweeping sanctions legislation that ratchets up pressure on Moscow to end its illegal war. Nova Ukraine CEO Ambassador Erin E. McKee said: "We're grateful that Congress has finally passed real sanctions with teeth against Putin and the Russian officials waging this war, and we urge the President to sign this legislation into law without delay. Sanctions bite when they cause real economic consequences. These target the Russian defense sector and the foreign suppliers propping it up, and they go after Putin's so-called shadow fleet of tankers that has quietly financed this invasion for years.

When the Lights Go Out, Childhood Shouldn’t Have To

A new solar power system at a high school in Chernihiv Oblast will help keep heat, water, classrooms, and its shelter running through Ukraine’s hardest winters, giving students something children everywhere should be able to count on: school. Last winter, a school in Chernihiv Oblast had more days without power than with it. When the grid went down, the generators on site weren’t strong enough to power the building. Heating failed. The shelter went cold. Students who should have been in class were logging on remotely instead — if they could log on at all. This winter will be different.

Nova Ukraine Supports Independent Anti-Corruption Investigation, Emphasizes Due Process

(KYIV, Ukraine)--Following Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko’s resignation amid a NABU/SAPO investigation into an alleged scheme involving officials in the Prosecutor General’s Office and fraudulent call centers, Nova Ukraine CEO Ambassador Erin E. McKee issued the following statement: “We welcome this investigation. Accountability and the rule of law are essential to a well-functioning democracy. Nobody is above the law. While we support NABU and SAPO, we also advocate for due process, evidence, and independent judicial review. And we expect the government to safeguard the independence of anti-corruption institutions. We support a full, independent, and transparent investigation of all individuals implicated. Any credible allegations of wrongdoing involving public officials - including officials within law-enforcement or anti-corruption institutions - should likewise be investigated independently and according to the law.The same rule must apply to everyone: investigate where the evidence leads, protect due process, and let independent courts determine guilt.”
