Nova Ukraine and global partners are establishing a new initiative in Ukraine called the NaUKMA Research Center for Heritage Preservation and Recovery.
To launch the new center, an inaugural symposium was held on May 14-15 at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (NaUKMA), bringing together Ukrainian and international universities, cultural institutions, researchers, and policymakers working in the field of heritage preservation and recovery.

“Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has faced not only the destruction of cities and infrastructure, but also a sustained attempt to erase cultural memory – its identity, language, architecture, archives, places of worship, and other layers of meaning that define who Ukrainians are,” said Nova Ukraine Co-Founder and Director Iryna Bilokin at the symposium.

“Culture is central to recovery. It helps preserve and rebuild not only physical structures, but also dignity, meaning, and historical truth. For Nova Ukraine, this work is deeply aligned with our mission, as culture plays an important role in sustaining communities and supporting veterans who have defended Ukraine with extraordinary sacrifice,” she said.
The Center is being set up through a partnership between Nova Ukraine, the NaUKMA Department of Archaeology, the Cornell University Department of City and Regional Planning, the Cornell Institute for Archaeology and Material Studies, and Roblee Historic Preservation.
