From Eco Picnic to Eco Film Festival

With Nova Ukraine’s support for the second year in a row, Ukrainian nonprofit Chysto.De?!—whose name translates as “Clean.Where?!”—is expanding environmental education and creating new opportunities for Ukrainian eco-cinema. At this year’s ECO FILM FESTIVAL, organized by Chysto.De?! on August 15–16 at MC6 Creative Residence in Slavske, visitors watched Ukrainian and international environmental documentaries, attended lectures and public discussions, joined hands-on workshops, and explored a market of sustainable local crafts. Children and teenagers spent the weekend learning the basics of documentary storytelling, filming nature around them, experimenting with stop-motion animation, and presenting their own short films at the closing ceremony. For Nova Ukraine project manager Yevheniya Chuchko, it was the part of the festival that stayed with her most.

The First Step Toward a Ukraine Without Pain

Ten Ukrainian military doctors complete the first pain management course of the Ukraine Without Pain project, supported by Nova Ukraine and hosted at Feofaniya Hospital. When a doctor learns a new way to treat pain, that knowledge can travel far beyond a training room. It can shape the care they provide to patients and the practices they share with colleagues. That is the idea behind the Ukraine Without Pain project: teams teaching teams to strengthen medical care for people affected by the war. With the support of Nova Ukraine and several other partners, the first training course in the project’s “Pain Management for Patients with Combat-Related Injuries” track has been completed at Feofaniya Hospital. Preserving Ukrainian Culture

Nova Ukraine's collaboration with Ukraine's Ministry of Culture helps fund national TysyachoVesna initiative for Ukrainian arts and culture. Nova Ukraine is helping ensure that Ukrainian culture continues to thrive despite the ongoing Russian assault. The organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine in June, and their first collaborative effort proved to be an inspiring success. Nova Ukraine contributed funding for TysyachoVesna (translation: “Thousand-Spring”), a large-scale initiative to create and support competitive Ukrainian cultural products in the fields of cinema, music, theater, animation, and visual arts. More than 180 independent experts evaluated 2,634 cultural projects that were applying for funding under the program. Of those applications, 1,227 projects advanced to the final pitching and 546 were recommended for government support, according to Ukranews.com. Nova Ukraine provided funding for the work of the independent experts, who ensure a transparent, professional, and high-quality process for evaluating the cultural projects.
