On August 28th, 2023, representatives from the Nova Ukraine team, Kateryna Kovalenko, Viktoriya Trotska, and Vlad Dergunov, met with the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Yevhen Kudriavets. Given the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the ongoing aggression against Ukraine that escalated on February 24, 2022, the primary focus of their discussion was the future development of the Ukrainian educational system.
During the meeting, several initiatives were outlined that Nova Ukraine could support. One of the most significant was the collection of digital devices from major tech companies and individuals in the US. These devices are intended to be sent to Ukraine and distributed among schools in need.
The team also explored the possibility of supporting Ukraine’s talented children in science Olympiad contests, looking at options to bolster their teams for international competitions. Such initiatives are designed to popularize science and math activities within Ukraine.
A significant topic of discussion was the Museum of Science. The vision went beyond a stationary museum and included a proposal to establish a mobile collection of experiments overseen by educators. This mobile unit would travel across the country, promoting education and science by engaging and encouraging children to participate in hands-on experiments.
Additionally, there was a detailed conversation about bolstering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Ukraine through the enhancement of programs and expansion of opportunities for Ukrainian students nationwide.
Both governmental bodies and organizations like Nova Ukraine are taking significant steps to enrich the educational landscape for the nation’s youth. With Knowledge Day on the horizon, there is a genuine cause for celebration, given these promising new developments.
By the conclusion of the meeting with the Deputy Minister, both parties had officially cemented collaborative efforts and intentions by signing Memorandums of Understanding.
