Childhood Without War: A Legacy of Love Against All Odds

Childhood Without War: A Legacy of Love Against All Odds

Every war is a war against children.

Since the full-scale invasion in 2022, over two thousand children lost their lives. Countless more have been injured, lost their parents and homes, and are now facing indescribable uncertainty. At Nova Ukraine, we strive to protect every child who is suffering because of russia’s unjust war in Ukraine.

For over three years, we have been supporting the “Childhood Without War” project for 484 orphaned Ukrainian children and their caretakers in Türkiye. This project provides not only housing and five meals a day but also cutting-edge education, medical assistance, and psychological support, helping these children achieve a fraction of normalcy in these turbulent times. Let us share some of the impactful stories throughout our collaboration.

One of the charges, who remains unnamed, has taken it upon himself to create paintings and give all the proceeds from the sales to charities. Each art piece is this boy’s love and gratitude to those protecting our land. On Independence Day, “Childhood Without War” held a charity fair, during which many of the boy’s paintings found new owners. One of his latest paintings is “Winter’s Tale,” and all the collected funds went on to help Ukraine and its people.

Childhood Without War: A Legacy of Love Against All Odds

This May, over 300 people gathered in İzmir, Türkiye, to enjoy the aroma and taste of Ukrainian borscht, prepared with love and symbolizing Ukrainian resilience. During the opening of the festival, a moment of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people and the shared history of persecution. The main goal of the festival was to inspire the community to support orphaned children and prevent the repeating of past tragedies. The culinary masterpieces united everyone to sit down at the table of solidarity and kindness.

The children engage in all kinds of activities – performing and showcasing Ukrainian culture at festivals, building robots and learning Python, competing in soccer tournaments and relay races, and enjoying arts and crafts while raising money for Ukrainian charities. This is what makes “Childhood Without War” more than just a refuge for the children who lost their parents to russia’s aggression. This project creates a community where every child can thrive and find their passions. It is a family where love and compassion are stronger than the pain of war.

Nova Ukraine is incredibly proud to support all the children and the project team. This project not only shields them from the immediate impacts of war but also invests in their future, giving them hope and opportunities to thrive beyond the circumstances of their upbringing. Together, we are building a legacy of love and resilience.

Training ENT Surgeons in Acoustic Trauma

Author Matt Salter Nova Ukraine is dedicating funds to a vital and often underserved medical necessity in conflict areas: acoustic trauma. In partnership with Pivnyk Charitable Foundation, this new program will train Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctors in Ukraine to treat hearing loss and ear injuries. Why Hearing Restoration Is Critical An estimated 60% of people injured in combat zones suffer acoustic trauma, hearing loss, or both. On the ground with Nova Ukraine’s CEO: Stories of impact from Lviv, Kyiv, and Kharkiv

Author Diana Kirk The mom passing warm slices of bread to her kids. The warehouse worker placing that last box on the truck. The child in the after-school program who just discovered: she loves to draw. These are snapshots from a trip that stayed with Nova Ukraine’s CEO Ambassador, Erin E. McKee, long after she left Lviv, Kyiv, and Kharkiv in April 2026. Because behind each moment is the work of an extraordinary partner organization, helping to heal, build, and empower Ukraine. Together, we're ensuring that the Ukrainian people remain resilient today, and thrive tomorrow. In two dozen meetings with partners, local leaders, and people on the ground, here's what Erin saw.

Aprons shield vital organs and bone marrow from radiation exposure. Collars protect the thyroid gland, which is sensitive to excessive radiation. Both are vital in long-term X-ray use. In addition to providing improved safety through the procedure, protective gear allows for more detailed imaging, which makes for improved diagnosis, better treatment, and healthier patients. Tools like these go beyond the current crisis: they are reliable and reusable, suitable for the long-term use that forms the foundation of resilient healthcare systems. Nova Ukraine, through our HEAL pillar, is dedicated to providing Ukrainian doctors, medics, nurses, and other healthcare professionals with the tools they need to build strong and lasting healthcare infrastructure across the country.

Equipping Doctors for Safer Diagnosis

Author Matt Salter Nova Ukraine’s latest investment in strong, modern healthcare systems has arrived! Lviv First Medical Association has received a shipment of protective X-ray aprons and collars. These tools keep patients and caregivers safe during procedures requiring X-ray imaging, empowering healthcare workers to give patients top-quality diagnosis, treatment, and care. The new aprons and collars protect patients and healthcare workers from X-ray overexposure in video urodynamics, the process of identifying and treating potentially deadly issues of the urinary system and bladder. It calls for specialists to stay by a patient’s side from the beginning of the imaging process to the end of the procedure. Long-term, hands-on care like this produces the best outcomes, but without protective gear, it risks exposing patients and doctors to dangerous levels of radiation. With the new gear, doctors in Ukraine can deliver best-in-class diagnosis and treatment, improving current and future outcomes across the national healthcare system.
