After Ukraine Action Summit, Nova Ukraine Applauds Bipartisan Bills Cracking Down on Russian Aggression

WASHINGTON–Just days after the 8th Ukraine Action Summit brought more than 700 pro-Ukraine advocates from all 50 states and Puerto Rico to Washington, D.C., lawmakers from both parties have introduced two important bills holding Russia accountable for its actions.

In the Senate, Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) introduced the No Oil Profits for Enemies (NOPE) Act, which would restore Congressional oversight of U.S. sanctions on Russia and prevent Putin’s regime from profiting off ongoing hostilities with Iran.

And in the House and Senate, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced the Countering Russia’s War on Faith Act, which would require the Secretaries of State and Defense to report on Russian efforts “to persecute, suppress, discriminate, or otherwise violate the religious freedoms of Ukraine and temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.” It also calls for the President to sanction Russians involved in religious persecution.

“Nova Ukraine strongly supports these two bills and is grateful that lawmakers from both parties are taking action to hold Russia accountable for its crimes. It is indefensible that U.S. money continues to find its way into Russian coffers while Russia wages a war of aggression against Ukraine. The NOPE Act puts a stop to it.

And the Countering Russia’s War on Faith Act is an important acknowledgment that Russia isn’t just waging a war in Ukraine. It’s conducting an erasure of a people, their cities, and the sacred places that hold their identity.”

Training ENT Surgeons in Acoustic Trauma

In partnership with Pivnyk Charitable Foundation, this new program will train Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctors in Ukraine to treat hearing loss and ear injuries. These tools keep patients and caregivers safe during procedures requiring X-ray imaging, empowering healthcare workers to give patients top-quality diagnosis, treatment, and care. The new aprons and collars protect patients and healthcare workers from X-ray overexposure in video urodynamics, the process of identifying and treating potentially deadly issues of the urinary system and bladder. It calls for specialists to stay by a patient’s side from the beginning of the imaging process to the end of the procedure. Long-term, hands-on care like this produces the best outcomes, but without protective gear, it risks exposing patients and doctors to dangerous levels of radiation. With the new gear, doctors in Ukraine can deliver best-in-class diagnosis and treatment, improving current and future outcomes across the national healthcare system.

20,000 teddy bears blanketed the California Capitol Monday. Why they were there

The installation, called “Bring Kids Back,” made its Sacramento debut as part of an ongoing campaign to draw attention to the thousands of children and support international efforts for their return. It was displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., and in Los Angeles earlier this year. “I think everybody can agree that stealing children is an atrocity and should not be happening in this day and age,” said Aleksandr Krapivkin, director of advocacy and engagement at Nova Ukraine and one of the event moderators. “If we don’t want this to ever happen again — not only in Ukraine, but … to any nation, then we have to take action now.” The focal point of the installation were the teddy bears, which hung from fence panels and formed the message “Putin abducted 20,000 Ukrainian children. Bring Kids Back.”
