On June 17, Kyiv endured the largest attack in over a year. More than 440 drones and 32 missiles struck across Ukraine, killing dozens and injuring many more. In Kyiv, a missile hit a nine-story apartment building, killing at least 28 civilians and injuring over 130. The russian regime’s actions marked a harsh escalation—compelling us, yet again, to report that this was “the largest attack of the year.” Still, people endure.

Children still gather for summer camps. Mothers continue to care for entire families while their partners defend Ukraine. First responders keep supporting communities. Doctors keep saving lives. Teachers keep showing up online, in bunkers, and wherever they are needed.

Nova Ukraine stands with the people of Ukraine, and YOU make our work possible.

Emergency Response Across Ukraine

June Newsletter

As russian assaults continue to target civilians and vital infrastructure in cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Odesa, Nova Ukraine remains actively present and is responding swiftly on the ground.

As part of the Nova Stash project, we activate our local teams to assist first responders, deliver trauma supplies, provide backup power and hygiene kits, and help support displaced families. We stay in close contact with our partners and emergency services to reach people whenever and wherever they need us most.

HEALing and Recovery

After shelling seriously damaged the Institute of Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology in Kyiv, Nova Ukraine funded critical repairs. Today, this essential facility is serving families once again.

At five locations of our partner TMS HUB, 291 veterans have found healing through Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes over the course of four months. For many, this martial art becomes the first step toward overcoming trauma and rediscovering that life continues beyond war. Some participants are now training for competitions—even dreaming of world championships in Abu Dhabi.

BUILDing Futures

June 6 marked two years since russian forces destroyed the Kakhovka Dam, affecting over 100,000 people. While the scars remain deep, we continue supporting the region and installing solar-powered clean water stations in areas where traditional wells are no longer safe. We continue supporting first responders and deliver the tools they need when emergencies strike.

With support from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, our Zmistovno after-school learning centers now operate in 55 locations across Ukraine. In a war that forces children to grow up too quickly, these centers offer something precious: the chance to simply be kids again—to learn, express themselves, and build confidence.

EMPOWERing Communities & Voices

On Children’s Day in Lviv, 50 internally displaced children with autism spectrum disorder participated in a thoughtful chocolate-making workshop. These activities, designed specifically for developmental needs, remind us that every child deserves tailored support and moments of pure joy.

Our partnership with INSCIENCE continues transforming lives through education. This remarkable organization has brought science to 7,374 children near frontlines and empowered 707 women to launch tech careers. Their 2024 conference attracted over 970 attendees, demonstrating that Ukraine’s intellectual community continues to flourish, even in times of war.

This month, Ukrainian voices are reaching new audiences from Broadway to the Nevada desert. “The Hunters and the Hunted” musical drew a full house at Open Jar Studios on Broadway, while artist Oleksiy Sai’s massive “Black Cloud” installation prepares to carry Ukraine’s message to Burning Man. Art serves as a bridge, allowing the world to grasp the realities faced by Ukrainians.

ADVOCATE and Stand With Ukraine

June Newsletter

In May and June, Nova Ukraine placed billboards near major U.S. airports and high-traffic routes with a clear and urgent message: BRING KIDS BACK.

Tens of thousands of Ukrainian children remain missing—forcibly taken to russia and separated from their families. Ukraine’s Bring Kids Back UA initiative continues the difficult and critical work of reunifying families. Every voice matters. Every use of #BringKidsBack helps raise awareness and push for action. Together, we can help bring these children home.

Growing Congressional Support for Accountability. Over 70 House members now cosponsor H.R. 2548, the Sanctioning Russia Act that proposes punitive 500% tariffs on countries purchasing russian energy and banking restrictions on Kremlin-linked entities. Bipartisan support is growing, but your voice is essential. Please continue reaching out to your representatives.

Recognition & Transparency

We’re honored to have earned the 2025 Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid’s GuideStar—one of the highest recognitions for nonprofit accountability.  This milestone reflects our commitment to showing exactly how your support translates into impact: real numbers, real results, and real people helped.

Please consider sharing this milestone on your social media to help raise awareness and expand our community.
