Ukraine’s healthcare system has been under constant pressure since 2022. Russian attacks have damaged hospitals and medical infrastructure, while the number of patients with severe and complex injuries has sharply increased. At the same time, many medical professionals are serving on the front lines. Through its HEAL pillar, Nova Ukraine supports Ukraine’s healthcare system at every critical stage. We deliver life-saving medical aid, equip stabilization points and medevac teams, and provide hospitals with essential equipment and supplies. We support patients from evacuation and emergency care to surgery, rehabilitation, and psychological support. Beyond emergency response, we invest in training medical professionals and supporting national-level research to strengthen the system for the long term. Working with trusted partners, we help save lives today while building a more resilient healthcare system for Ukraine.

Stories of doctors, veterans recovering, and healthcare change in Ukraine.

Doctors United for Ukraine, in partnership with Nova Ukraine launching a one-month observership at Yale School of Medicine.
Ukrainian Doctors Start Training in the US to Advance Pain Medicine Care

October 6, 2025 – New Heaven, CT Doctors United for Ukraine (DU4U), in partnership with Nova Ukraine and with the support of the Yale World Partnership Fund, launched a groundbreaking one-month observership at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and Yale New Haven Hospital. The program brings Ukrainian physicians to study advanced approaches to treating chronic pain and integrating mental health care. “Relieving pain is a fundamental duty of any doctor. Especially now, for Ukrainians with physical and mental trauma from the ongoing war, resulting in chronic impairments,” says Andrey Zinchuk, Vice President of DU4U, Medicine, YSM. “We are partnering with Ukrainian physicians to advance evidence-based chronic pain treatment there and to learn from them about innovations forged during this war that help people in other conflicts.” “War in Ukraine caused a surge in complex trauma, amputations, and chronic pain syndromes among military and civilian populations. Chronic pain is an especially complex medical issue, affecting the daily lives of trauma survivors,” said Oksana Gologorska, Vice President of Medical Projects at Nova Ukraine. “In Ukraine, this field is changing in response to unprecedented need, through updating care standards, training specialists, and modernizing facilities, however the current capacity does not match the level of patient needs. That is why supporting Ukrainian doctors in gaining international experience is absolutely critical. Our goal is to establish world class chronic pain treatment in Ukraine accessible to all.”

Nova Ukraine Wins National Award for Medical Aid Efforts in Ukraine

We are honored to share that Nova Ukraine has received first place in the “Charity in Healthcare” category at Charitable Ukraine 2024, the country’s highest national recognition for charitable work. Out of more than 1,790 applicants across 26 categories, only three winners were selected in each. At the award ceremony in Kyiv, honorees were presented with the “Angel of Goodness” statuette – a national symbol of gratitude for humanitarian service. This award recognizes the collective efforts of our medical team and partners who work every day to save lives and strengthen Ukraine’s healthcare system under fire. Through our HEAL initiative, Nova Ukraine delivers trauma kits, funds first-aid training, equips hospitals, and supports rehabilitation programs for civilians and veterans across the country – including in regions near frontlines. Ukraine’s healthcare system, already under strain from years of underfunding and the impact of COVID-19, has been devastated by war. Hospitals near the front and across the country face power outages, staff shortages, and supply crises – all while treating a constant flow of trauma patients. Our role is to help bridge global medical standards with on-the-ground realities, working hand-in-hand with local responders. Our medical team is focused on both saving lives and rebuilding them, so people in Ukraine can receive comprehensive care even in the hardest-hit areas.

For over five years now, the Ukrainian community of San Francisco and the Silicon Valley has been providing aid to Ukrainian Army soldiers that endured severe spinal injuries when fighting the war in Eastern Ukraine. Some of the critically needed items are wheelchairs and anti-decubitus pillows, as well as personal medical hygiene items. These are bought separately and shipped to the injured directly. We couldn’t have provided soldiers with these important items without your help and support. However, the situation in Ukraine has turned to the worse. Some of the items needed have either become too expensive, or disappeared from the Ukrainian market entirely. Sergiy Titarenko, one of the rehabilitated soldiers says: The cost of 1 cup of coffee can pay for the medical items and equipment for one person for 2-3 days. Please join us in donating $5-10 to significantly improve our veterans’ quality of living.
