Nova Ukraine, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, proudly introduces Ukraine Without Pain. Its goal is to establish a stable network of centers to facilitate the treatment of patients with chronic pain and pain syndromes throughout Ukraine. Aligned with our medical program’s mission of Saving Lives and Rebuilding Lives, this project addresses the urgent need for chronic pain care, a critical issue affecting soldiers and civilians in the wake of russia’s full-scale invasion.
The need for this initiative is stark: Recent studies show that 54% of Ukrainians, including refugees, are experiencing PTSD, while severe anxiety affects 21%, and high-stress levels are reported by 18%. The Ukrainian Health Ministry reports that complaints regarding mental health issues have doubled this year compared to 2023. Since February 2022, the number of Ukrainians with disabilities has increased by 300,000, doubling the demand for physiotherapists experienced in treating acute or chronic injuries.
Through Ukraine Without Pain, we are:
- Establishing specialized pain centers within anesthesiology and intensive care departments
- Providing essential equipment for effective pain treatment
- Training medical professionals to elevate Ukraine’s healthcare standards
By the end of 2024, we aim to:
- Open two “Pain Medicine” centers: one at the Feofaniia Clinical Hospital and another at the Pirogov Regional Hospital in Vinnytsia
- Facilitate specialized courses in chronic pain treatment
- Develop and implement national standards for pain treatment based on evidence-based medicine
- Create unified protocols for diagnostics and treatment
The team expects that implementing this project system will result in:
- Reducing the number of patients with chronic pain and improving their quality of life.
- Enhancing the professionalism of medical workers in pain medicine.
- Advancing scientific research in pain science and implementing results in practice.
Update for This Month:
This month, we launched the first specialist training program at the Feofaniya Clinical Hospital, marking a foundational step in building a nationwide pain management network. The initial team from the Vinnytsia Regional Hospital is learning through an innovative “team-teaching-team” model. Feofaniya’s expertise in neurology, anesthesiology, psychology, and rehabilitation will help set a new standard for holistic, patient-centered care across Ukraine.
With a focus on advanced techniques — regional anesthesia, ketamine infusions, catheter blocks, and nerve stimulation — the Ukraine Without Pain initiative takes a comprehensive approach to pain management, from pre-hospital care through rehabilitation. This approach aligns with global efforts to make rehabilitation a central component of health systems, recognizing its vital role in reducing disabilities.
Since February 2022, Nova Ukraine has delivered over $110 million in aid and services to the people of Ukraine, helping more than 7.9 million people. Our medical initiatives receive the largest share of our budget, reflecting the critical need in this area. The Ukraine Without Pain initiative is part of our broader commitment to promoting rehabilitation of the wounded, supporting prosthetics, and developing the field of pain medicine.
