Reading of the Ukrainian Musical The Hunters and the Hunted

Reading of The Hunters and the Hunted is a Ukrainian musical co-written and co-composed by Anton Humaniuk, Bohdan Reshetilov, and Kyrylo Beskorovainyi. Directed by Lisa Rafferty, the reading will feature 11 songs (translated into English) and excerpts of dialogue, accompanied by a live piano performance by Ukrainian pianist Ruslan Ramazanov.

The one-hour reading will be followed by a 15-minute conversation with creators and Stew Stewart, Tony Award and two-time Obie Award-winning playwright and performer.
First premiered at the Kyiv National Academic Operetta Theatre in June 2023 in Ukraine, The Hunters and the Hunted has won a prestigious Ukrainian award – the Kyiv Pektoral. The story follows Gregory, a resilient 25-year-old descendant of the first Siberian convict, who escapes from the train heading to GULAG against all odds, guided by the unyielding motto: “Luck favours the brave.”
Through Gregory’s journey, the musical weaves history and contemporary events, celebrating Ukraine’s cultural heritage while examining the struggle between oppression and freedom.
