DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, July 28th\, 2024\, the Nova Ukraine running team will participate in the San Francisco Marathon\, one of the most popular and spectacular races in the Bay Area. \nWe aim to convert each step our runners take into dollars to support Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv\, which was directly struck by a Russian missile attack on Monday\, July 8th. \nOkhmatdyt is the largest pediatric\, non-military diagnostic and treatment institution in Ukraine. Every year\, up to 18\,000 children receive treatment at Okhmatdyt\, around 20\,000 receive emergency care in the trauma center\, and approximately 7\,000 surgeries are performed. \nThe attack has caused severe damage to the intensive care units\, operating rooms\, and the oncology department. The strike destroyed the building where children received dialysis\, crucial for their survival. \nYour donations and kind support of the Nova Ukraine running team will make a difference by giving support to the patients\, helping replace essential equipment\, and aiding in reconstruction efforts. SUMMARY:Awoken by War
DESCRIPTION:Join Nova Ukraine and the local Ukrainian community for an inspiring evening honoring the two year anniversary of Ukraine’s Resilience. \nYou will have a unique opportunity to preview a very special film project supported by Nova Ukraine — a documentary filmed and made in Ukraine by Kyiv-based film director Iryna Pravylo. \nAwoken by War is a film about the human side of war right after the deoccupation of Kyiv region (Bucha\, Hostomel\, Irpin\, Borodyanka\, etc.). It is an honest portrait of the Ukrainians living through the shared trauma of the russian invasion and its aftermath. We get to know them\, get to hear what’s on their mind\, follow them in church\, at home\, inside the trenches and an armored vehicle\, behind the artist’s canvas. This story sheds light and seeds hope as we continue to be the witness of the largest war conflict in Europe since WWII. \nAfter the movie materials preview\, co-producer\, Yulia Zimmermann\, will share some insights on the journey of making an artistic documentary in the conditions of ongoing atrocities of russian attack on Ukraine\, the importance of cinema nurturing empathy\, and Nova Ukraine’s road map for supporting Ukrainian cinema to share the truth and inspire people to continue supporting Ukraine by helping independent filmmakers in Ukraine. \nA panel discussion will follow the film screening. The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles. \nPurchase Tickets for Awoken by War

SUMMARY:JAMALA - Like a Bird Tour (North America 2023) - San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:Ukrainian singer / songwriter and winner of the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest Jamala\, is to go on her first major USA and Canada tour. The new show includes music from different periods that will be performed through a special electronic interpretation. The tour name\, “Like A Bird”\, is a reference to the track of the same name from the “All Or Nothing” (2013) album.\nThe new “Poklyk” EP (2022)\, recorded during the artist’s forced separation from home\, will be the center of the performance. The mini-album closely references the singer’s culture and overflows with warm feelings for home.\nSince the outbreak of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine\, Jamala has become the voice of her people\, taking part in many charitable events supporting her homeland. During 2022 she performed in 20 countries. In May of this year\, she received the “Distinguished Leadership Award” from the Atlantic Council of the USA in recognition of her efforts to protect Ukrainian identity and culture during Russia’s invasion. And in December of the same year\, the singer was invited to close the Kennedy Center Honors ceremony in Washington.\n“Art has a superpower\, and I live to witness this every day. Every performance\, every initiative is a small step towards our great victory. My mission as a representative of Ukrainian culture remains unchanged: to keep reminding the world about my home that is being devastated by war. Performances in the USA and Canada are another opportunity to make our voices heard\,” – Jamala.\nTICKET LINK: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/deseract/822112

SUMMARY:День Вишиванки - Vyshyvanka Day
13:00.\n \nWe know that many Ukrainians are working in San Francisco. Let’s unite with all Ukrainians in the world and show our national identity by wearing vyshyvanka to work on May 18\, 2023. Join us at noon that day at the Ferry Building / Clock Tower to celebrate this special day together.\nЯкщо ж ви далеко від цього місця і не зможете приєднатися\, одягніть свою вишиванку де б ви не були в цей день і поділіться з нами вашими фотографіями тут у події.

SUMMARY:Ukraine on Stage - a dramatic reading & benefit for the people of Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:BENEFIT PERFORMANCE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR UKRAINE – FREE PERFORMANCE – DONATIONS WELCOME \n\n“Ukraine on Stage” is a theatrical reading that dramatizes turning points in Ukraine’s history\, extending from the genocidal famine in the early 1930s to the Maidan Revolution in 2014 and the war that continues today. We communicate with music as well as first-person accounts and poetry in a performance that is educational as well as dramatic. \n\n\nThis presentation places in historical context Ukraine’s struggle today for freedom\, democracy\, fundamental human rights\, and peace. \n\n\nThese days\, as the winter of 2023 comes to a close\, Ukrainians are facing food\, electricity\, and medical supply shortages. They are experiencing the massive destruction of their surroundings and sometimes the loss of their own homes. As much as ever before\, Ukraine needs our vigorous and generous support. This benefit performance will be an opportunity for all of us in the Bay Area to come together and express our solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
